YEAR 12 students at St Mary and St Mina's Coptic Orthodox College, Rockdale, in 2008 have made history as its first HSC class.
The school, initially thought to be too small to support an HSC year, was ranked 85th in the state in terms of HSC achievement.
Student Justina Georges, who earned a university admission index (UAI) of 94.5, said: ``Even though it's a new school, and we being the first year 12s, we had all the resources we needed.
"It's an honour in a way, it's a bit special.''
Fellow student Joseph Magdy, who achieved a UAI of 99.95, said: ``I wanted to prove everyone who said the school couldn't do it, wrong.''
Mena Yassa, UAI 93.5, credited the school's small environment for his success.
Daniel Tshak scored a top UAI of 99.5.
Students from the district sat for their exams Headmaster Michael Atteya said the school ``must be doing something right''.
"It's had its challenges but the Coptic community and Father Mikhail have been very supportive in catering for the students' needs.
"The success really comes when the parties are able to put their hands together and support each other."
